Lavatories, food and drinks available at start/finish points of walks and at halfway point/destination. Refer to specific itineraries for more detail.
Observations
Places of interest on the themed walks include, but are not limited to, a visit to a ruin, working cortijo, farmstead, rural building, old mill, rural production facility, etc. All themed walks include a visit to a place of interest and a short countryside walk.  All visits include a lunch, unless otherwise stated.

Traditional cortijo and farmstead
An exclusive opportunity to visit a traditional cortijo and small working farmstead where you will experience the authentic, rural way of life in the Frigiliana countryside. Learn about the olive tree, olives and olive oil and participate in olive harvesting! Learn about the unique variety of Moscatel grape used in making wine and participate in grape harvesting and treading on the grapes! Learn about the old traditional methods still employed in their harvesting and production. Sample some of the traditionally made wine. The Muleteer Odyssey

Walk along ancient mule routes and centuries-old mountain paths as you follow in the footsteps of hardy and daring traders who once traversed these mountains at night in order to get their goods to distant markets in the interior. The mountains and their intricate network of paths were also frequented by bandits, outlaws, and most notably, hardened mountain guerrillas who fled to the mountains and fought a dirty and bloody campaign against fascist Franco during the civil war. Highlight of the walk is a typical mountain, travelling muleteer’s lunch on the old threshing circle of an historic mountain inn in a spectacular mountain setting. More Info >>

 

Frigiliana Village and Castle Ruins
Frigiliana is one of the prettiest and well conserved examples of the Andalucian “pueblos blancos” (white villages), and one of the best representations of original Moorish architecture to be found in the province of Málaga. On this walking tour we will discover some of Frigiliana’s unique and enchanting attributes, like its labyrinth of zigzagging streets and cobblestone lanes, darkened passageways, and inviting cul-de-sacs that often end in a brilliant array of ornately decorated limewashed courtyards. You will also go on a lovely circular walk around the olive groves and orchards of the Frigiliana countryside and pine forests of its adjacent Natural Park. Visit to Iberian ham curing house in the Alpujarra
Enter the delectable world of Iberian cured ham with a visit to a premiere ham curing and drying house located in one of the premier ham curing and drying regions of Spain. You will be immersed in the history, traditions and techniques of the oldest ham curing house in the Alpujarra where you will learn all about the rearing, selection, curing and drying processes involved in traditional Iberian ham production. The bees and honey of Colmenar NEW GUIDED THEMED WALK!
The name “Colmenar” literally translates to Apiary and stems from its long tradition and heritage of being one of the premier honey producing regions in the province of Málaga. On this fascinating excursion we will visit the very interesting bee and honey museum and have an opportunity to dress like a professional beekeeper to participate in a very interesting and interactive live beehive workshop. The scenery and landscape around Colmenar is truly spectacular, and we will enjoy it with a lovely walk through the Montes de Málaga Natural Park. The Málaga Goat: meat, milk and cheese NEW GUIDED THEMED WALK!
Enter into the fascinating world of the humble goat, the undisputed champion of the traditional, rural way of life in the Axarquía. The goat is the mainstay of the countryside, providing many direct and indirect benefits to both man and the environment. This tour will take you to a very beautiful part of the Axarquía known for its gently rolling countryside and wide open vistas. We will visit a traditional cheese factory in the mountains and cheese lovers will be able to enjoy a cheese tasting. The best part of all is accompanying the goatherd and the goats on their constitutional in the afternoon, a great opportunity to see rural life up close and personal.
